London Gatwick Airport (LGW) is London's second largest airport, located 45.7km south of central London, but just 5km from the West Sussex town of Crawley.

The quickest way to get into the centre of London is the Gatwick Express n(a 30min non-stop service into London Victoria), or regional rail into Victoria, London Bridge, St Pancras, and north to Luton Airport. It takes roughly an hour to drive into Central London, but traffic flow is unpredictable.

Many travellers elect to avoid the horrors of a 4am taxi call by sleeping at the airport and arriving at the check in refreshed and ready to go. And if your schedule in London doesn't allow time to explore the city, you can catch up in Gatwick's huge shopping mall where there are branches of famous London stores Harrods and Hamleys.

Gatwick Airport hotels on site include two four-star hotels catering for both business customers and holidaymakers. Hilton Gatwick, linked to the South Terminal by a covered walkway has a full business centre, 24 hour gym and various bars and restaurants among its facilities; Sofitel London Gatwick serves the North Terminal and boasts a range of luxury suites. Both Sofitel and Hilton Gatwick offer Park & Fly packages, which include Gatwick airport parking.

For something a bit different, consider a Yotel cabin. An extension of London's funky Yo! Sushi restaurant chain, they're based on the Japanese capsule hotel idea, and can be found inside the South Terminal. Choose from double room, bunk beds, or single, all ultra-compact but still with room for flat screen TV, en suite bathroom and free wi-fi.

Away from the bustle of this busy airport, Copthorne Hotel London Gatwick is actually on the edge of woodland in the nearby village of Copthorne, while Copthorne Effingham Park is an historic country house set in beautiful parkland, but still only ten minutes from London Gatwick Airport. Many other well known hotel brands can be found close to Gatwick, all offering either long term hotel parking or deals on Gatwick Airport parking.
