Boasting a rich history that spans over one thousand years, the site was originally occupied by Benedictine monks in the middle of the tenth century. Poets' CornerThis section of the south transept of the abbey is so called due to the large amount of writers and poets buried there, including Rudyard Kipling, Geoffrey Chaucer, Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy. The corner is also decorated with many memorial stones and busts dedicated to the likes of William Shakespeare and poet laureate Ted Hughes.Kings and QueensA place of monumental British history and intrigue, an incredible seventeen monarchs are buried at Westminster Abbey. Monday Friday 9:30am 3:30pm
Saturday 9:00am - 1:00pm (9:00am 3:00pm May - August)
Sunday - Closed

The Abbey closes for visiting one hour after the above times.

Guests are free to visit the Abbey at any time of the day that the ticket is valid for.

Please Note timings for 2020:

  • Monday to Friday: Due to daily service there will be no entry between 12:00pm to 1:00pm. However visitors already in the Abbey do not need to leave during this time.
  • The Abbey is a fully working church therefore we are subject to closures at short notice.
  • Monday 6th April:Entry from 09:30 15:30
  • Tuesday 7th April:Entry from 09:30 13:00 and then 14:00 16:00
  • Thursday 9th April:Entry from 09:30 15:30
  • Saturday 11th April:Entry from 09:00 to 15:30
  • Monday 13th April:Entry from 09:30 15:30
  • Saturday 18th April:Entry from 09:00 13:00

  • In order to gain entrance to Westminster Abbey you must print your ticket - all redeemable tickets/vouchers must be printed and exchanged at the entry.
  • Guests can visit the Abbey at any time. Please see the schedule for opening hours.

  • Westminster Abbey is a working church and subject to occasional closures due to special services and events please check the website for further details.
