London's West End Hotels
For many people the West End is London - the flagship stores of Oxford Street and Regent Street, the designer boutiques of Bond Street, up and coming labels off Carnaby Street and Covent Garden, the world renowned theatres, the hip Soho nightlife, the free galleries (National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Wallace Collection), and the internationally feted concert halls (Coliseum, Opera House and Wigmore Hall). You can eat on a budget amid the bustle of Chinatown, or dine in style at top restaurants covering every cuisine.
So it's no surprise that the pick of central London hotels are concentrated in London's West End, though don't expect to get away with less than £130 for a double in this sought-after part of town (or at least £200 if you are going for a top hotel).
Hilton Hotels have West End shopping covered, with five star operations at Green Park, Park Lane, and Regent Street. The Park Lane Hilton is famed for its panoramic views across Hyde Park and Central London, as well as it's top floor Michelin starred restaurant Galvin at Windows. Meanwhile Green Park offers a more refined experience in a Georgian townhouse just off Piccadilly (well placed for the Royal Academy and St James's) and Courthouse Doubletree in vibrant Soho. Hilton's boutique-style Trafalgar is popular with Londoners for its two fashionable bars - bourbon bar Rockwell and rooftop bar Vista with envied views over Trafalgar Square.
Radisson are another big operator among London West End hotels. Four star luxury is to be had at their Leister Square Hotel (a boutique-style venture behind the National Gallery), the Mountbatten in Covent Garden, and the Grafton, Sussex and Berkshire for Oxford Street; five-star Radisson hotels in this area are the Hampshire in Leicester Square and the May Fair near Green Park.
Park Lane and Piccadilly are lined with top names but it's not all glossy chains. London West End hotels include budget options such as Holiday Inns in Mayfair and by Oxford Circus.
